Apologies for the earlier, garbled mail that some people may have recieved earlier.
Server Upgrade
We will be upgrading a to a new, much more powerful 2-way, dual core Xeon server. Customers on our current shared hosting plans will be migrated to the new server early next week. I am projecting Tuesday or Wednesday.
Benefits
The new server will be a 2-way dual core Xeon, which is quite a bit more powerful than the current server with just (!) 2 single core Xeons. With 4GB of ram - and perhaps more to come - it will be ready to take on our future needs. It also features RAID 5 to protect against failure of our 10k rpm hard drives.
- What you need to do -
Customers with domains purchased through us
If we’re managing your domains with you, we will update your domain dns for you. Your files, databases and settings will be migrated for you. No action from you will be necessary.
Customers with domains purchased elsewhere
You will need to do a simple change to your domain nameservers. How to?
Your files, databases and settings will be migrated for you. No action from you will be necessary.
We are experimenting with a process which does not require updating nameservers. While we feel all should go through fine, this process is experimental and may fail to work. It would be best to update your nameservers manually if you can.
Take Note
- During the migration period, we ask our clients to avoid making changes to their files. This is as changes to your files on the old server after we have copied your files to the new server, your changes will not be reflected in the new server. The projected time is tentatively set to be Tuesday - Thursday (26th to 28th)
- IP Addresses will be changed. We’ll let you know what they are after they have been finalised.
- If you absolutely need to update your site, please save all changes made on your local hard drive. You can also let us know so that we can pay extra attention to your account.
- Hard Coded paths. If your scripts use hardcoded paths, such as /home/username/script.pl, there might be issues as the path may be changed. Please check your scripts and update them accordingly.
- Remember to check back here for updates. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. :)
Thanks for your support and time for this migration exercise. We hope the new server will be faster and more responsive for you and we apologise for any inconvenience resulting from the upgrade.
Updates will be posted at http://forum.reverac.com/viewtopic.php?p=441
And by the way, look for for a New Year's present from us! ;)
